About WashFinder

WashFinder is an independent directory of car washes in the United Kingdom. It exists to answer one question that mapping apps answer badly: which wash near me is actually open right now, and is it any good?

What the Directory Contains

• 7,819 car wash, valeting and detailing locations across the UK
• 6,134 locations with a full weekly opening schedule
• 82,500 customer reviews behind the star ratings
• Grouped into town and city pages by distance from the town centre, not by postal district, so a wash on the edge of one town still appears under it

Coverage is deliberately deep rather than wide. We would rather cover a city properly than list one wash in every postcode in Britain, so new areas are added only once we have hours, contact details and reviews for most sites in them.

Where the Data Comes From

Business facts — name, address, phone number, website, coordinates, opening hours, payment methods and on-site amenities — are collected from publicly available Google Maps business listings. Star ratings and customer review text also originate there and remain the property of the people who wrote them; we display an extract and always attribute the author.

Reviews submitted through the form on a listing page are written by visitors to this site and are stored separately from the imported data. They are shown alongside imported reviews with the author name supplied at submission.

How We Label Machine-Generated Text

Each listing may carry a short paragraph headed "Our Take". This is a machine-generated summary produced by a language model reading that location's reviews. It is a convenience, not journalism: it condenses what customers repeatedly said, including when what they said was unflattering. We do not edit these summaries to favour any business, and we never accept payment to change one.

Where a location has too few reviews to summarise honestly, we leave the section out rather than invent copy. Those sparse listings are excluded from our sitemap and marked noindex — they exist so the map is complete, not to attract search traffic.

Editorial Independence

• No business can pay to be listed, ranked higher, or have a negative summary removed.
• Rankings are driven by rating, review volume and distance — nothing else.
• The site is funded by display advertising. Advertisers have no influence over listings or guides. See our Privacy Policy for how ad partners handle your data.
• Guides in the Guides section are written by us and contain no paid placements.

Corrections

Directory data ages. Washes close, change hands and change hours. If something on this site is wrong, tell us and we will fix it — email hello@washfinder.co.uk with the listing name and what is incorrect. We aim to respond within 7 days.

Business owners can claim a listing, update details, or ask for removal through the same address. Review authors can request deletion of their review; see Privacy section 6.

Technical Notes

The site runs on Cloudflare Workers with a D1 database, maps are rendered with Leaflet and OpenStreetMap tiles, and listing photographs are proxied through this domain so that image requests do not expose your IP address to third parties. Opening status is computed live in Europe/London time, so BST and GMT are handled without stale "open now" badges.
