1. Who We Are

WashFinder (washfinder.co.uk) is an independent car wash directory for the United Kingdom. We are the data controller for the personal data described below. Contact: hello@washfinder.co.uk.

2. What We Collect

  • Review submissions — the display name, rating and comment text you type. Published publicly on the relevant listing.
  • Approximate location — only if you press "Near Me". It is read by your browser, used to sort results for that request, and never stored on our servers.
  • Analytics data — pages viewed, referrer, device and browser type, country-level location, via Google Analytics 4.
  • Advertising data — collected by Google AdSense and its partners, as described in section 5.
  • Server logs — Cloudflare records IP address and request metadata for security and abuse prevention, retained for a short period.

We do not run user accounts and we never ask for payment details.

3. Legal Basis (UK GDPR)

  • Consent — analytics and personalised advertising cookies.
  • Legitimate interests — publishing reviews you chose to submit, keeping the site secure, preventing spam and ad fraud.

4. Advertising — Google AdSense

This site is funded by advertising. We use Google AdSense. You should know:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
  • You may opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendors' cookies at aboutads.info/choices and Your Online Choices.
  • If you decline advertising consent on our banner, we transmit a denied signal via Google Consent Mode v2 and ads are served non-personalised.

5. Who We Share Data With

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers required to operate the site:

  • Cloudflare, Inc. — hosting, CDN, database and bot protection.
  • Google LLC — Analytics and AdSense, as described above.

These providers are located outside the UK. Transfers rely on the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

6. Third-Party Listing Data

Listing details and star ratings — including reviewer display names and review text — are sourced from publicly available Google Maps business listings. If you authored a review and want it removed from this site, contact us and we will delete it, normally within 7 days. See About for how the directory is compiled.

7. Retention

  • Reviews you submit: kept until you ask us to remove them.
  • Analytics data: retained by Google for 14 months.
  • Location from "Near Me": never stored.

8. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR you may request access to, correction of, deletion of, or restriction of processing of your personal data, and you may withdraw consent at any time via the cookie settings link. Email hello@washfinder.co.uk. If you are unhappy with our response you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

9. Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

10. Changes

We update this policy when our processing changes. The "last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
