There is no national Sainsbury's jet-wash price. The useful numbers are on the machine in front of you, not on a supermarket price list.

Short answer

Check the bay for its tariff, session length, payment methods and operating hours before paying. These details vary by site, so use the displayed controls, watch the timer and allow for more than one payment increment.

Price the bay, not the brand

Sainsbury’s public store records identify which locations have a jet wash, but they do not publish a tariff or session length. Its help centre does not provide either. That makes any claim about “the” price misleading: the machine itself is the price list.

One anonymous customer review of the Archer Road bay in Sheffield, mirrored by Yorkshire.com, reported “reasonable amount of time given for £2” in about March 2025. Treat that as local customer colour, not a nationwide tariff. There is no reliable published price-per-minute figure for the estate.

Wilcomatic names Sainsbury’s among supermarket clients and says its self-service systems can charge according to time taken. Its published Tesco contract used a revenue-share arrangement under which Wilcomatic owned and maintained the machines while the supermarket received a share. That does not establish Sainsbury’s contract terms, but it does show why a supermarket-branded bay may be operated and maintained separately from the shop.

There are 185 listed locations, split almost evenly by site type

Sainsbury’s own store-locator data listed 185 locations with “Jet Wash” on 23 October 2026. Petrol stations narrowly outnumbered main supermarkets, so looking only on forecourts would miss almost half the estate.

62listing jet wash only

Of the 185, 119 also list “Car Wash” and 11 list “Hand Car Wash”. Those labels matter. A car park may contain more than one kind of wash, and a price seen beside a rollover machine is not automatically the self-service-bay price.

Use the Sainsbury’s filter or find a wash near you, then check the individual location before travelling. Even an official facility label tells you that a wash is listed, not that it is working today.

From the WashFinder database27

Sainsbury's-branded UK car-wash listings in our directory. Of these, 22 have a rating, covering 533 Google reviews.

Our directory is a smaller set than Sainsbury’s 185 facility records. It contains 21 listings categorised as “Car wash” and six as “Self service car wash”, so its ratings describe the branded wash listings we hold, not every jet-wash bay in the supermarket’s estate.

How to use a sainsburys jet wash without wasting the timer

Use the controls in the order shown on that machine. Wilcomatic says its bays can be configured with foam, brushes, rim cleaner, high-pressure lances, frost protection and contactless payment, but that is a menu of possible equipment rather than a promise that every location has every function.

  1. Before joining the queueLook over the bay. Check that the lance, hose and payment panel appear available, and read any fault notice before committing.
  2. Before payingRead the tariff and timer. Confirm the accepted payment method, what one increment buys and how the machine displays remaining time.
  3. At the controlsSelect the programme shown. Use only the modes actually labelled on that bay rather than expecting every Wilcomatic option.
  4. During paid timeFollow the display. There is no reliable published answer on whether releasing the trigger pauses the clock, so do not plan on it.
  5. Before leavingCheck the registration plates. Make sure the registration is displayed correctly and can be read.

For a fuller first visit, our guide to using a jet wash covers the practical sequence. At Sainsbury’s, the crucial extra step is checking the local payment panel before the countdown begins.

Do

  • Read the price and duration before paying
  • Follow the programme names on that bay
  • Keep enough money available for another increment

Don't

  • Assume another Sainsbury's charges the same
  • Assume the trigger pauses the timer
  • Treat supermarket opening hours as bay hours

Card may be common, but check before you queue

Payment capability and payment acceptance are different things. Christ operating terminals can be equipped for coins, bank cards with a PIN pad, NFC, RFID or transponders, barcode wash codes and app payment. That list describes the manufacturer’s options; it does not identify the terminal fitted at your local bay.

In our directory, 25 of the 27 listings state a payment method, and all 25 list card or contactless. That is encouraging, but it is not an official estate-wide policy. Older hardware, a faulty reader or a listing that has not caught up with a machine change can still spoil the plan. Our guide to paying by card or cash at a UK car wash explains the trade-offs.

Ratings hide a mixed set of washes

The 22 rated listings in our directory have a simple mean site rating of 3.00, while the review-weighted mean across 533 reviews is 3.77. The gap means higher-volume listings have more influence when every review, rather than every site, receives equal weight. Neither figure tells you whether a particular lance works this afternoon.

We also hold 200 review texts for these listings. The language points to availability and reliability as recurring irritations, though the small counts do not justify treating them as failure rates.

“closed”9
“queue”5
“out of order”4

“broken”3

The category mix also makes quotation hazardous. This one-star comment concerns a listing called Sainsbury Car Wash, not a confirmed self-service bay:

"It came out as dirty as it went in. Good price but poor poor quality. Waste."

Google review, Sainsbury Car Wash

An attended hand-wash listing at Sainsbury’s attracted the opposite judgement:

"Great service & lovely staff. First time here and will now be my favourite car wash to go to. Definitely would go back."

Google review, Hand Car Wash at Sainsbury's

That contrast is useful, but not as evidence about a jet-wash timer. Read the listing type before trusting the stars. The same discipline applies when reading what car-wash reviews complain about.

Opening hours belong to the site, not necessarily the bay

Among Sainsbury’s locations listing a jet wash, the most common published site-hours pattern is 07:00–22:00 at 77 locations. Another 28 show 06:00–22:00, 14 show 08:00–22:00, and only four of the 185 are recorded as open 24 hours. These are supermarket or petrol-station hours. They do not establish when the wash equipment is switched on.

Weymouth petrol station, for example, lists Jet Wash and Car Wash and publishes 06:00–22:00 opening seven days a week. The page does not give separate bay hours.

Northern Ireland is changing. Sainsbury’s agreed in October 2026 to sell all eight of its Northern Ireland petrol stations to Go Forecourts, with transfers expected over six to 12 months. Six of those petrol stations currently list a jet wash. The reports do not say whether the wash equipment transfers with the forecourts, so check the current site identity before making a special journey.

If the machine takes payment but supplies no wash

The first job is to identify the trader supplying the service. Wilcomatic publicly links itself with Sainsbury’s, but there is no public contract showing that it operates every bay. In 2023, after a van damaged the car wash at Castle Court in Bristol and left it out of action for more than a week, Sainsbury’s told Bristol Live that it was working with “the car wash team”. That is a useful warning against assuming the supermarket kiosk can repair the machine itself.

For an in-store Sainsbury’s purchase, its published complaints number is 0800 63 62 62. Its contact form has a stated response aim of three working days, and an alternative dispute-resolution route is available if the complaint remains unresolved. Keep the location, time, amount and payment record so you can describe the failed service precisely.

How we counted. The 185-site estate figures come from Sainsbury's public store-locator API queried on 23 October 2026; every returned record contained the facility label “Jet Wash”. WashFinder's separate figures cover 27 Sainsbury's-branded UK listings in our directory, using Google Maps listing and review data collected in 2026. They are directory counts, not an official register.

The verdict

A Sainsbury's bay can be a convenient timed wash, but the orange branding does not buy national consistency. Check the machine's price, time, payment icons and operating notice before you pay; if any of those is missing or the bay looks faulty, choose another wash.
